Ginger-Fruit Compote
Fruits such as oranges and apples were once cherished as holiday gifts. Rekindle the memory of such simple joys with this pleasing compote.
 
3/4 cup water 
1/2 cup sugar 
4 tsp lemon juice 
1 Tbs snipped crystallized ginger 
4 cups assorted fruit (such as sliced kiwifruit, orange sections, chopped apple, sliced banana, berries and/or seedless red grapes) 
 
1For syrup, combine water, sugar, lemon juice, and ginger in a small saucepan. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl. Cool. Cover and chill up to 24 hours.
2Place fruit in a large serving bowl. Pour syrup over fruit, tossing gently to coat. Cover and chill up to 24 hours. Makes 6 servings.
